Hardwick, Erma (28 SEP 1944)
In front of an altar decorated with fall flowers, Miss Erma Hardwick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hardwick, and Petty Officer First Class Robert Jerome Dignin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Dignin, all of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), were united in the holy bonds of matrimony, at St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, at 2:00 o’clock on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 28, 1944. The Rev. N.J. Dechant performed the double ring ceremony.
The bride entered the church on the arm of her father, to the strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march, played by Mrs. Emma Theiler. The bride wore a gown of white chiffon over satin, with lace insets, a sweetheart neckline, long sleeves, fitted bodice, and a long circular train. Her fingertip veil fell from a tiara of seed pearls. She wore a gold cross and carried a shower bouquet of baby’s breath and white roses.
The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Delores Hardwick, as maid of honor, and Miss Phyllis Hardwick and Miss Betty Dignin, sister of the groom, as bridesmaids. Their gowns were pastel chiffon over satin, with long sleeves, round neckline, fitted bodices in colors of aqua, pink and yellow. They wore shoulder length veils in colors to match their gowns, wore gold crosses, and carried arm bouquets of white asters and red roses.
The flower girl, little Sue Ann Creviston, cousin of the groom, wore white floor length chiffon over satin, with short sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. She wore a gold cross and carried a basket of lowers. The ring bearer, Dale Dignin, brother of the groom, wore a sailor suit and carried the rings on a pillow of black velvet.
The groom was attended by his shipmate, Petty Officer Second Class Edward O’Hara. They both wore tailor made navy blues.
Mrs. Edith Smith, cousin of the groom, sang "Oh Promise Me" and "I Love You Truly," preceding the ceremony.
The bride’s mother wore a dress of black and fuchsia printed velvet and black accessories. The groom’s mother wore a dress of black crepe, trimmed in white and black accessories. Each wore a shoulder corsage of mixed flowers.
Following the ceremony a wedding dinner and reception was held at the house of the groom’s parents to about sixty relatives and friends.
The bride is a graduate of the local high school with the class of ’48, and since then has been employed in defense work in Milwaukee. The groom graduated with the class of 1940, and in November entered the U.S. Navy. He took his training at Great Lakes, and attended trade school at Dearborn, Mich.
A miscellaneous shower was held at the Jerome Dignin home Monday evening, Sept. 25th. Hostesses were Mrs. John Burchell, Mrs. Ernest, Amport, Mrs. Gil Blom, and Mrs. James Hardwick.
