Marohl, Cpl. Art (Bronze Medal - 1944)
With the 3rd Armored "Spearhead" Division (Passed by the Censor), Corporal Arthur Marohl of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), has been awarded the bronze star medal for heroic achievement in action against the enemy.
Corporal Marohl volunteered to go on a mission as a member of a three man team whose assignment it was to destroy four buildings well within the enemy lines, that the enemy was using as observation posts. Each man carried 50 lbs. of TNT and was to place it in one corner of the house.
The road leading to the building was covered with rubble, making it difficult to advance quietly. The enemy had machine guns "laid in" on this road had inflicted heavy casualties on a patrol trying to go up that road earlier in the day.
Just before Cpl. Marohl reached the building the enemy sent up flares illuminating the entire area. He fell to the ground and remained motionless for ten minutes. When the flames went out he continued up the road, place his charge and set it off, successfully completing the mission.
