Fitzmaurice, Pvt. Thomas (11 MAR 1923 - 16 JAN 1945)

Great sorrow came to the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Fitzmaurice Wednesday morning, with the message from the war department stating that their son Thomas (article says John) was killed in action in Belgium on Jan. 16th, 1945.  There appears to be a mix up, as a previous message received stated that Thomas was seriously wounded in action Dec. 31st.  No word has been received directly from him in some time.

Thomas would have been 22 years of age on March 11th.  He was inducted into the infantry two years ago last December, and went overseas last fall.  He was a good soldier, and received the commendation of his commanding officers.  Previous to his induction he was employed for several years on a farm at Janesville, and his job there was awaiting his return from the war.

Another son of Mr. and Mrs. Fitzmaurice, Gerald, is in the medical corps, and is now stationed at a general hospital in England.

Phillip, the third son of the family to be called for service in the armed forces, will leave for training camp this Saturday.
