Luepke, Eleanor, (6 APR 1920 - 20 JUN 2011)

 


SPENCER -- Eleanor Luepke, 91, of Spencer, passed away Monday, June 20, 2011, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer. The Rev. David DaPaoli will officiate. Burial will be held in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.


A time of visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Spencer and from 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the church. Her pallbearers include Doug Krokstrom, Kim Luepke, Todd Luepke, Tom Krokstrom, Jason Kundinger, Nathan Hass, Ernie Kibbel and Ed Allen.


Eleanor was born April 6, 1920, in Unity, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Schroeder) Mellenthin. She was united in marriage to Herman Luepke on Sept. 25, 1937, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer. He preceded her in death Oct. 17, 1985. Eleanor worked in Spencer at Graves Mercantile, Red Owl and retired from Land O' Lakes after 20 years of employment.


Eleanor was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as president and treasurer of the ladies aid and taught Sunday school. She also was active in the senior center. Eleanor enjoyed her gardening, playing bingo, fishing and ice fishing, cooking, knitting afghans and traveling.


Eleanor is survived by her two children, Jean (Tom) Fogarty, Spencer, and Neil (Marilyn) Luepke, Marshfield; nine grandchildren, Douglas (Jane) Krokstrom, Marshfield, Tom (Louise) Krokstrom, Spring Hills, Kan., Robin Krokstrom, Lincoln, Neb., Kellie (Edward) Allen, San Rafael, Calif., Kim (Stacy) Luepke, Spencer, Todd Luepke, Chili, Carrie (Ernie) Kibbel, Spencer, Kimberly (Jason) Kundinger, Spencer, Nathan (Jody) Hass, Marshfield; and 22 great-grandchildren. She further is survived by her brother, Wilbur "Pete" (Jean) Mellenthin, Spencer; a sister-in-law, Deloris Mellenthin, Beaver Dam; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Eleanor will be sadly missed by her family and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elsie; her husband, Herman; her son, Dennis; three brothers, Oscar, Gordon and Ray Mellenthin; and a sister, Shirley Yelich.


Eleanor's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Marshfield Care Center and 6 North at Saint Joseph's Hospital for their wonderful care.
