Smith, Meldrum #2 (28 MAY 1908 - 1 MAR 1945)
Meldrum J. Smith, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Steve Smith, was born May 28, 1908, at their farm in the town of Cleveland, Jackson County, Wis., and died suddenly at his home in Pasco, Wash., on March 1st, 1945, where he was doing defense work. At the time of his death he was 36 years, 9 months and 3 days of age.
He was one of a family of nine children. His parents, two sisters, and two brothers preceded him in death,
Mel, as he was always called, grew to young manhood in this vicinity, graduated from the local high school with the class of 1928, and attended the state teachers college in Eau Claire for two years.
On May 3, 1933, he was married to Bessie Jeffery, and to this union were born one son, Mel, and one daughter, Beverly, who survive him. He is also survived by one sister, Margaret, Mrs. Andrew Lubinski; and three brothers: Arthur, River Falls; Steve, Humbird; Guy, Freeport, Ill.; besides many relatives and friends.
Burial services were held from the Methodist Church in this village (Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.), Wednesday afternoon, March, 7, Rev. R.W. Sachtjen officiating. Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.
