DeMert, Walter T.(4 June 1897– 2 August 1962

 

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee for Walter T. DeMert, 65, of South Milwaukee, who died Thursday at his home.  The body was brought to the Georgas Funeral Home in Neillsville following the Milwaukee service and on Monday afternoon a service was held from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.  The Rev. L. E. Schreiber, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church in Granton, officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Mr. DeMert, a veteran of World War I was born June 4, 1897, in Adams County.  He was the son of the late Edward and Pauline (Hallman) DeMert and was educated in schools in Marquette County.  He farmed as a young man and after receiving his discharge from the army he farmed in Dodge County before coming to Clark County in 1928.  In 1951 he retired from farming and moved to South Milwaukee.

 

On November 24, 1920, he was married to the former Eva Hansen in Westfield.

 

He is survived by his wife; one son, Darwin, of Glendale, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Ardes) Seelow, Granton; four sisters, Mrs.  Robert (Viola) Monteufel, Portage, Mrs. Roy (Martha) DuSell, Aurora, Ill., Mrs. Otto (Emma) Bulgrin, Beaver Dam, and Miss Eleanore DeMert, Kaukauna; and three brothers, Lawrence, Oscar and Gustav DeMert, all of Neillsville, and nine grandchildren also survive.

 

Mr. DeMert was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

 

Pallbearers were Leonard Wachholz, Phillip Kernz, Felix Kotcon, William Seelow, Joe Boh, and Myron Sobczak.

C.; Mr. and Mrs. William Pierce and Mabel Pierce, Nekoosa; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Dittman and Mrs. Lizzie Hallman, Pardeeville; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lau, Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. Erlin Dahl, Mr. and Mrs. John Gluch, Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fees, Humbird; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young, Loyal.
