Frank Zastrow, 78, of Merrill, formerly of Neillsville, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital, in Wausau.
Franklin Ernest Zastrow was born June 12, 1933 in Minocqua, the son of Frank H. and Helen Marie (Young) Zastrow. He served in the United States Army 38th Infantry Regiment Company C as a corporal stationed in Fort Lewis, WA. He was united in marriage to Beatrice C. Blaisdell Aug. 4, 1956, at the First Presbyterian Church in Merrill.
He worked at Wausau Paper Mills in Brokaw for 35 years, retiring Sept. 1, 1989.
Frank served as cub master for Boy Scout Pack #402 and also with church groups. He was an avid reader and enjoyed doing things with his children and grandchildren, including camping, fishing, hunting, traveling and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; sons, Steven E. (Julie) Zastrow of Merrill, Leon D. Zastrow of Menasha, Mark A. (Yvonne) Zastrow of Wausau, Michael L. Zastrow of Neillsville; a daughter, Catherine (Corey) Dornbrack of Merrill; grandchildren, Carl and Rose Dornbrack, Stephanie, Brenda and Marcus Zastrow, Kevin and Laura Jones; brothers, Robert (Dolores) Zastrow of Tomahawk, William "Bill" Zastrow of Milwaukee; sisters, Norma Thimot of Flagstaff, AZ, Virginia (Philip) Dettmering of Hartford; a son-in-law Mark Jones of Neillsville; and a sister-in-law, Jacqueline "Jackie" Blaisdell of Gleason.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Clay Franklin; a daughter, Cynthia Marie Jones; and a sister, Marie Olson.
A graveside service for Frank was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the Town of Levis Cemetery, south of Neillsville. Pastor Adam West officiated. Visitation was from 10 a.m. t o 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
