Driver Killed in Collision
Merrill--A 43 yeasr old Illinois woman was killed instantly Thursday evening when her car collided with a semitrailer truck driven by a Spencer man.
Claudette Udder, River Grove, Ill., was northbound on Highway 51, north of Merrill near Larson Lake Wayside, when her car spun out into the southbound lane. The car collided with the oncoming truck driven by Gary Krehmeyer, 41, who was hauling wood chips from Merrill for Roehl Transport, Inc., Marshfield.
Both vehicles went into the east ditch and caught fire. The front of Udder's car ended up under the truck, Lincoln County Sheriff's Department authorities said.
Krehmeyer escaped before the truck and woodchips caught on fire. He was treated and released with facial cuts and internal injuries.
Udder's body was removed using the Jaws of Life.
