Luepke, Eleanor (06 ARP 1920-20 JUNE 2011)

 

Eleanor Luepke, 91, Spencer, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2011, at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, surrounded by her family. A time of visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home. Spencer, and  from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. Rev. David DaPaoli will officiate. Burial will be held in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers  will be Doug Krokstrom, Kim Luepke, Todd Luepke, Tom Krokstrom, Jason Kundinger, Nathan Hass, Ernie Kibbel and Ed Allen.

 

Eleanor Mellenthin was born on April 6, 1920, in Unity, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (nee Schroeder) Mellenthin. She married Herman Luepke on Sept. 25. 1937  at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Spencer. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1985. She worked in Spencer at Graves Mercantile and Red Owl, and retired from Land O’ Lakes after 20 years of employment. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served as president and treasurer of the ladies aid, and she taught Sunday school. She also was active in the Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, fishing and ice fishing, cooking, knitting afghans, and traveling.

 

Survivors include her two children, Jean (Tom) Fogarty, Spencer, and Neil (Marilyn) Luepke, Marshfield; nine grandchildren, Douglas (Jane) Krokstrom, Marshfield, Tom (Louise) Krokstrom, Spring Hills, Kan., Robert Krokstrom, Lincoln, Neb., Kellie (Edward) Allen, San Rafael, Calif., Kim (Stacy) Luepke, Spencer, Todd Luepke, Chili, Carrie (Ernie) Kibbel, Spencer, Kimberly (Jason) Kundinger, Spencer, and Nathan (Jody) Hass, Marshfield; 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur "Pete" (Jean) Mellenthin, Spencer; one sister-in-law, Deloris Mellenthin, Beaver Dam; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elsie; her husband, Herman; one son, Dennis Luepke; three brothers, Oscar Mellenthin, Gordon Mellenthin and Ray Mellenthin; and one sister, Shirley Yelich.

 

Eleanor’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Marshfield Care Center and 6 North at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their wonderful care.
