Joyce M. Bushnell, 83, Loyal, died on Thursday, June 23, 2011, in the Palliative Care Unit at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. A funeral service was held at 6 p.m., on Monday, June 27, at Life Tributes Funeral Home, Spencer, with graveside committal following at the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. Ronald Johnson officiated.
Joyce M. Benson was born on June 10, 1928, in Blue Mounds, Township, near Mt. Horeb, to Meroy and Josephine (nee Johnson) Benson. She graduated from Mt. Horeb High School in 1946. For a number of years, she worked in Madison as a keypunch operator at the state Department of Transportation. She married Charles M. Bushnell on April 3, 1961, Bethal Lutheran Church, Madison. They enjoyed many wonderful years together, marking their 50th wedding anniversary on April 3, 2011. She did accounting work for a tax assessor for several years. Later she enjoyed meeting and assisting people as an Avon representative. Finally, she and Charles worked as motel managers for several years. She was a very dedicated and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She really loved time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook. Pastimes she enjoyed included going to garage sales and playing various games including Scrabble, Yahtzee, Bingo, and the card game, Rook.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; one daughter, Karyn (Peter) Brecht, Loyal; two grandchildren. Benjamin and Valorie Brecht, Loyal; one sister, Jean Olson, Shoreline, Wash.; and several nieces, a nephew, other relatives and friends.
