Cache of Silver Coins (Uncovered - 1962)
A cache of old silver coins totaling $56.30, was uncovered Monday morning by workmen digging a trench at the Marg Fur Food Ranch, three miles west of Neillsville.
The coins were in a pint glass fruit jar, which had been placed inside a pail and was buried about 18 inches below the surface of the ground. The cache apparently had been there for more than a half century, for Kurt Marg, owner, said that he had lived on the farm for 50 years.
The pieces ranged from 10-cent to one dollar silver coins. All of those on which the dates were discernible were minted in the 1800s. On only one dime was it impossible to determine definitely the mint date.
The cache was uncovered by Frederick Wagner as he was digging a ditch with a mechanical shovel. The glass jar was broken and spilled some of the coins outside.
