Hardwick, William #2 (17 AUG 1868 - 26 DEC 1945)
Death came peacefully to William G. Hardwick in the early morning hours of Dec. 26th, 1945, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Greub, near Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), where he and Mrs. Hardwick had gone to spend the holiday time. Mr. Hardwick was one of those exceptional persons, who in his long life had never needed the services of a physician for an illness, and his sudden death was a great shock to all relatives and friends.
Burial services were held in the Methodist Church in this village last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Frederick J. Smith of the Augusta Church, and were attended by many relatives, old neighbors and friends. The musical selections by Mrs. W.E. Waters and Mrs. Wm. Theiler were "Under His Wings," "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Rock of Ages." Mrs. Walter Smith was accompanist. Pallbearers were Paul Elger, Paul Zerbel, Archie Fradenburg, P.A. Hemmy, John Greub, and W.A. Fradenburg. Interment was in Mentor Cemetery.
Relatives from away attending the services were his sister, Mrs. Sadie Roth, Roy Bentley, Waterloo; John Goeller, Fairbanks; Mrs. Lawrence Kane and son, Dunkerson, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lanners, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Greene, and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Amport, Milwaukee.
William George Hardwick, one of a family of three sons and five daughters of James and Lavice Hardwick, was born on a farm near Shady Gove, in Buchanan Co., Iowa, August 17, 1868, and died Dec. 26, 1945, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 9 days.
He lived with his parents on the home farm until 1892, when he was united in marriage to Alice Campbell of Fairbanks, Iowa. In 1902 he moved with his family to a farm near Humbird (Clark Co.), Wis.
To this union was born four children, Nettie, James, Effie, and Clarence. Nettie preceded him in death at the age of eight years.
In 1942, Mr. and Mrs. Hardwick celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They continued on the farm until an eye injury to Mr. Hardwick and also advancing age brought retirement.
Surviving are his wife and three children: James and Clarence of Humbird, and Effie, Mrs. Carl Greub, Greenwood; fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One brother and two sisters also survive. Thomas Hardwick and Mrs. Herman Neinkirk, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Charles Roth of Waterloo, Iowa.
