Greub, Christina #2 (19 MAR 1871 - 5 JAN 1946)
Christina Weldmann Greub was born in Schaftersheim, Wurttemberg, Germany, on March 19, 1871, and passed away at her home in Humbird, Jan. 5, 1946, at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 17 days.
She came to America as a young girl, settling first in Monroe, Wis. On Sept. 22, 1892, she was married to John Greub, Sr. They moved to a farm in Ciarno Township, near Monroe, and after a year moved to Alma, Wis., where they were engaged in cheesemaking. Later they took up a homestead near Columbia, Wis., where they lived for several years. They then moved to a farm west of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), which was their home until they retired in 1922 and moved to the village, which was her home until her death.
Her husband and one daughter, Barbara, preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing, six children: four sons, John of Humbird, Carl of Greenwood, Fred and Will of Monroe; and two daughters, Mrs. Herman Rieder of Humbird, and Mrs. Lloyd Staffon of Monroe. There are twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church, and a charter member of the local Women’s Guild.
Those from away attending the funeral services were: Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kneubuehl, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Lohmier, Mrs. Louis Haroldson and daughter Marlene, of Davis, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kneubuehl of Dekota, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Greub, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Greub, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Staffon and family, of Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rieder, Jr. of Rockford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Staffon of Alma Center; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Greub and Esther of Greenwood; Mrs. Dechant and Mrs. Eberhart of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Green of Milwaukee.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 8th, at St. John’s Church and were attended by many friends and neighbors. The pastor, Rev. N.J. Dechant, preached on the theme, "What God Will Do for Us," his text being from the 91st Psalm, the 16th, verse, "With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation." And he also used the words of one of the favorite church hymns, "How Blest the Righteous when he Died," as part of his thought. Mrs. Walter Smith and Mrs. W.E. Waters sang, with Mrs. Wm. Theiler as organist, "Under His Wings,’ Saved by Grace," and "Asleep in Jesus." Pallbearers were Arthur Christen, Erenst Duerkop, Jacob Heft, Louis Laffe, Albert Matti, and William Theiler. Burial was in the family lot in Mentor Cemetery.
