Opelt, Jerry (30 AUG 1947 - 30 JUN 2011)
Jerry Opelt, 63, of Neillsville died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at
Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital.
Gerald Robert Opelt was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Neillsville, the son
of Robert and Dorothy (Langreck) Opelt. He attended Neillsville
public schools and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1966.
On March 7, 1968, he was united in marriage to Carol J. Tresemer at
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville. They purchased the Paul
Jacobs farm in the town of Weston, and Jerry farmed there for his
entire adult life.
Jerry enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and giving his grandchildren
tractor and 4-wheeler rides.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; four children, Brad Opelt of
Neillsville, Denise (Russ) Burr of Marshfield, Chad Opelt of
Neillsville and Ryan (Sunni) Opelt of Neillsville; and five
grandchildren, Derek Kreitlow, Dalaney Opelt and Bella, Paris and
Boden Opelt. Jerry also is survived by his father, Robert Opelt of
Neillsville; seven siblings, Pat (David) Eisentraut of Neillsville,
Kathy (Don) Herbel of Green Bay, Dennis (Jean) Opelt of DePere,
Janet Gurney of Neillsville, Tom Opelt of Neillsville, Wayne
(Connie) Opelt of Neillsville and Larry (Tina) Opelt of
Neillsville; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Opelt, in 2008.
A memorial service for Jerry will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday,
July 8, 2011, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville. Pastor
Douglas Bjerke will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to
11:30 a.m. Friday at the Gesche Funeral Home.
