Msgr. Malik honored at HighGround ceremony.
On Saturday, May 14, a special legacy stone was placed for Msgr. John E. Malik at the HighGround Veterans Memorial near Neillsville. Msgr. Malik was a US Navy WW II veteran.
Although the day was not sunny, it did not suppress the enthusiasm of the individuals gathered to honor the late Monsignor Malik.
Members of Msgr. Malik’s family traveled from Georgia and Chicago to be part of this celebration. This included his sister, Carol Henkels and her husband, Paul, as well as a niece, Mary Fitzgerald.
Several parishioners from the St. Mary Help of Christians Parish in Colby came to celebrate this special event and pay tribute to Msgr. Malik.
Pastor Malik was appointed Pastor of St. Mary’s Help of Christians Parish in Colby on May 19, 1992. He served as St. Mary’s pastor until he was granted the status of senior priest of the Diocese of La Crosse on February 1, 2008.
A special stone was placed by Carol and Paul Henkels, the Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Home and School Association from the parish.
