Obituary of Harvey "Hap" Howard
Harvey "Hap" Howard, the son of Harvey and Eunice (Miller) Howard, was born October 30, 1916, at West Union, Ia. He was baptized and confirmed at the Illyria Church, Elgin, and received his education in the rural schools in Elgin.
On September 1, 1940, he was united in marriage with Edith Lillian Worchel at Globe Lutheran Church, Globe, Wi. To this union eight children were born. After their marriage they farmed for a while. He also worked in a defense plant during the war. When they moved to Monona, he was employed by H. Leslie Leas and later was self-employed as a heavy duty equipment mechanic at Howard’s Repair in Luana. He died Thursday, August 16, 1984, at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, having reached the age of 67 years.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Edith, who died May 29, 1979; a grandson Mary LeRoy in 1978; his parents; five brothers, Eddie Max, John, Hugh, Glenn, Lawrence, and one sister Ruth.
Surviving are six sons: LaVerne, Cedar Rapids, Dale, Great Falls, Mt, LeRoy, Monona, James, Wauko, Charles, Elgin, Gerald, Luana; two daughters, Eunice, Cucamonga, CA, Mrs. Jim (Deborah) Yohe, Houston, MN; 16 grandchildren; four sisters, Leota Murphy, Ellen Hansen, both of Greenwood, Wi, Lola Tornlinson, Neillsville, Wis, Doris Nehligh, Eurika, SD, and one brother, Theodore, Unity, Wi.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 20, 1:30 p.m. at the Garden City United Methodist "white" church with Rev. William Bloodworth officiating. Pallbearers were Ervin Bugenhagen, Harlan Keehner, Ronald Gordon, Cletus Rose, Robert Vargason, Willis Schott.
Burial was in the Illyria Cemetery, Elgin. Schultz’ Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of services.
