Hein, Mr. & Mrs. Oscar M. (Gold - 5 FEB 1946)
Although they have lived in a number of places since leaving here, to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar M. Hein, Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.) has always been "back home." On Tuesday, Feb. 5th, 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Hein celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Colburn, in Gary, Ind., and the old friends back home are interested in that happy event.
The Gary Post-Tribune of Feb. 6 states: "Mr. and Mrs. O.M. Hein, 2010 West 5th, repeated the nuptial vows which they first exchanged 50 years ago in Neillsville, Wis., at a ceremony read last night by Rev. Bernard Spong of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, of which the Heins are members.
Miss Dorothy Colburn, granddaughter of the Heins, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Spong, sang well remembered melodies during the ceremony which was part of the golden wedding anniversary observed last night in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Colburn, 450 Rutledge.
"Mrs. Colburn is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hein, and their son and daughter-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. D.E. Hein of LaSalle, Ill., also were present, as were two nieces, Miss Zella Brandstedter and Miss Fern Fristad, both of Chicago Heights, Ill. Another out of town guest was Norman E. Colburn of Detroit.
"Friends and relatives were served refreshments from the tea table by Miss Colburn and Miss Jean Viberg. The golden anniversary theme was maintained by the yellow flowers in the floral centerpiece and the lighted golden tapers in the crystal candelabra. A miniature gold leaf embellished the individual cakes."
Mr. Hein, who had been in the roller mill with his father, was connected with the furniture factory in Neillsville when he became acquainted with the bride-to-be, Miss Tobea Fischer, who was a clerk in one of the stores. Soon after the wedding they established their home in Humbird, Mr. Hein being in company with his father in the mill at the time. Later he became the sole owner. About 1899 their fine residence was erected. Mr. Hein served the community ten years as town clerk, two years as chairman, and three years a member of the board.
Since 1909, when the property here was disposed of, the Heins have resided at different places, spending the winters at times in California. For a number of years they were in Minneapolis, but in these later years have been at LaSalle, Ill., or Gary, Ind., to be near the members of their family.
