Laffe, Eileen M. (21 NOV 1926 - 13 MAR 1946)

Great sorrow came to all relatives and friends when news was received of the sudden death of Miss Eileen Laffe, older daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Laffe, in an auto accident one mile north of New London.  The accident, an auto collision, happened soon after 8:00 o’clock Wednesday evening, March 13th, 1946, and a dense fog which occurred that evening, is reported as the cause.

A prayer service was held at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Iffland, in Fairchild, preceding the burial service, which was held at the Methodist Church in this village ag 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon.  Many friends were in attendance.  Mrs. Waters and Mrs. Smith sang "Sometime We’ll Understand" and "The Old Rugged Cross."  Miss Simons was accompanist.  The pastor, Rev. E.J. Sachtjen, used as a text and the thought of the sermon, the 51st verse of the 15th chapter of I Corinthians, "Behold, I show you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed."  There were many lovely flowers place about the altar and casket, and later covered the plot in Mentor Cemetery, where interment was made.

Eileen Mildred Laffe was born in Eau Claire, Wis., Nov. 21, 1926, and passed away March 13, 1946, attaining the age of 19 years, 3 months and 22 days.

As a young girl she lived here (Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.) with her parents and brother and sister, and attended school here for two and a half year.  Later the family located at New London, where she grew to beautiful young womanhood.

Eileen completed her school days in New London, graduating from the Washington High School in that city with the class of 1944.  After graduation, she was employed in the office of the State Fish Hatchery at Sturgeon Bay; and the offices of the Granger Transfer Co. and the Edison Wood Products Corp. in New London.

She leaves to mourn her untimely death, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard J. Laffe, one brother, Sheldon, Great Lakes, Ill., and one sister, Joyce, at home; her grandparents; also numerous relatives and friends.

Among the relatives and friends from away attending the services Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Haag and sons of Melrose; Herman Laffe of Madison; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Laffe of Black River Falls; and Miss Alice Lastofka of Minneapolis.
