Strege, Mrs. Fred (21 SEPT 1889-06 JULY 1956)
Mrs. Fred Strege, 66, route 1, died early Friday night in St. Joseph’s Hospital at Marshfield, several hours after she had fallen headlong through a hay chute to the basement floor of the barn. She suffered a fractured skull and other injuries.
Clark County officials, including Ray Kutsche, sheriff; John Nilolay, district attorney; and Robert D. Peters, deputy coroner, after investigating the accident, said that there would be no inquest.
They added that Mrs. Strege was helping her husband and son, Donald, store hay in the barn when the accident occurred. She fell backward through the chute when a trip rope broke on a hay fork which she had been operating.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran church with the Rev. Randolph Mueller officiating. Burial was in the West Spencer cemetery.
A life-long resident of the town of Sherman. Mrs. Strege was born there September 21, 1889. Besides her husband and only son, she is survived by a brother, Emil Buse, Route 1, Loyal, and three sisters, Miss Lena Buse, 114 W. Fifth St., Marshfield; Mrs. Walter Justman, Spencer, and Mrs. Emma Martl, Yakima, Washington. One sister and one brother preceded her in death.
