Parkhill, Niles S. (February 13, 1854 - January 24, 1931)

Niles S. Parkhill, Resident Here Sixty Years Passed Away At His Home Saturday

Niles S. Parkhill was born at Clockville, N. J., February 13, 1854, and passed away at his home in Abbotsford, Wis., Saturday, January 24, 1931 at the age of 76 years, 11 months and 11 days.

At the close of the Civil War he came with his parents to Wisconsin and located in the town of Shields near Montello. In 1872 they moved to Marathon county, settling on a farm about two miles east of the village Abbotsford.

In 1876 he was united in marriage to Anna B. Hamilton and to this union four children were born; Jesse of Abbotsford, Susie Peterson of Milwaukee, Fred N. of Valsetz, Oregon, and Myrtle Munson of Withee.

While living on the farm the Parkhill family were active in the work of the Riverside Presbyterian church and upon moving to the village this work was continued, Mr. Parkhill being one of the active Elders in the First Presbyterian church of Abbotsford.

Mr. Parkhill was also a member of the local Masonic lodge and also of the Eastern Star. He was a good husband and a kind and loving father, and was loved and respected by all who knew him.

He was not only faithful to his church but just as faithful in believing it was his duty as a Christian to do the will of his Master at all times, ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of need - both in acts of kindness and in words.

Mr. Parkhill is survived by his wife and four children and one step-son Robert Hamilton, two brothers George B. of Madison, and Fred A. of Culver City, Oregon, 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Abbotsford Tuesday afternoon, Rev. M. C. Durnam and Rev. L. Don Lawton officiating. The church was filled to overflowing with many friends attending, and the many floral offerings were very beautiful. After the services a long string of cars followed the remains to the cemetery at Colby where interment was made.

Those from out of town attending were George B. Parkhill of Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Parkhill and Mrs. Cleo Luse of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Munson, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Munson, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Munson, Loraine Munson, Sam Munson, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Free, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Billington, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson and Mrs. Berger of Withee, Mr. and Mrs. N. G. Peterson of Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. C. Fredericks of Chippewa Falls.

The Tribune join with the many friends in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
