Roder, Carl Gottlieb (10 Dec 1831 - 11 May 1914)
Carl Gottlieb Roder was born Dec. 10, 1831, in Silesian, Germany. He lost both his parents during infancy and was brought up by his guardian. On Oct. 25, 1854, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna R. Handke, who died Nov. 3, 1905. With his wife and two oldest children, he emigrated to America in June, 1866, and located in Sheboygan County, where he made his home until Oct. 1870, when he moved to Clark County, settling on a farm in the town of Grant, where he resided until his death which occurred May 11th from a stroke of paralysis.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Roder, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving children are: August of Neillsville, Mrs. Henry Sterns of Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Ernest Nitschke of Lynn, Paul on the home farm in Grant and Mrs. Carl Krause of Grant. Deceased is also survived by twenty grandchildren. He was brought up in the German Lutheran faith and had been a devout member of that church during a long lifetime. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the German Lutheran church, town of Grant, Rev. Reiff officiating.
