Judge Salter died Monday at his home in Colby after an illness of a number of weeks. He had been quite sick, but it was thought that he was improving, but the end came Monday. Dick Salter was one of the best known men in the county, prominent politically for many years, and being one of the wheel horses of the Democratic Party in the county. He was a native of Wisconsin and was born in Washington County in 1854. He graduated from the law department of the state university in 1878 and the following year located at Colby for the practice of his profession. In 1880 he was married to Miss Englehard of West Bend. In addition to his law practice he was interested in logging and farming and was an important factor in the development of the northern part of the county. In 1886 he was elected county judge of this county and served for four years. He held other important offices and was widely known for his bluff outspoken manner. The funeral will be held today at his home in Colby.
