Neuendorf, Virginia (22 October 1921 - 2 July 2011)

 

Virginia Neuendorf, 89, of Neillsville died Saturday, July 2, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a result of an automobile accident.

 

Virginia Hughes was born Oct. 22, 1921, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Patrick and Leona (Schlieve) Hughes.  She attended grade school in Milwaukee and graduated from high school in Duluth, MN.  Upon completing her education, she returned to Milwaukee and worked as a telephone operator for several years. She was united in marriage to Harvey Neuendorf Dec. 30, 1942, in Denver, Co, where he was stationed in the military at the time.  They raised their family in Milwaukee and when the children were older, Virginia went to work for Kohl’s Food Stores as a checker for many years.  She also spent some time working for Ray Smith’s pharmacy in Milwaukee before they moved to Neillsville in 1970.  In Neillsville she worked as a checker at the Farmer’s Store downtown and seasonally for Figi’s both in Marshfield and Neillsville.

 

Both Virginia and Harvey retired at the age of 70 and she spent her time enjoying bowling, shopping and  reading.  She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid in Neillsville.

 

She is survived by her husband, Harvey; three children, Chuck (Kris) Neuendorf of Neillsville, Robert (Rhonda) Neuendorf of West Allis and Susie (Russell) Karl of Neillsville; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Evelyn Cybulski; and two granddaughters.

 

Funeral services for Virginia will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.  Pastor Timothy Biebert will officiate.  Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

 

Casketbearers are Daniel Neuendorf, Darrin Neuendorf, D. J. Neuendorf, Todd Krueger, David Schutz and Russell Karl.

Neillsville Woman dead after one-vehicle crash -

 

Clark County authorities are investigating a Saturday, July 2, traffic crash just north of Neillsville claiming the life of a Neillsville woman.

 

The Clark County Sheriff’s Department received a 9-1-1 call at approximately 2:25 p.m. Saturday afternoon reporting a one-vehicle crash on STH 73, approximately one mile north of Neillsville.

 

An initial investigation indicated Evelyn J. Schoengarth, 72, of Neillsville was driving south on STH 73 when she lost control of the vehicle, which crossed the roadway, entered the east ditch and struck a power pole.

 

A passenger, Virginia I. Neuendorf, 89, of Neillsville later died from crash-related injuries. Both Schoengarth and Neuendorf were extricated from the vehicle.

 

The Neillsville Fire Department and Neillsville Ambulance Service responded to the scene.  The Clark County Sheriff’s Department will continue the investigation.  This was the fourth 2011 Clark County traffic fatality.
