Crane, Mary E. (16 FEB 1859 - 11 NOV 1946)
Mary Estelle, daughter of William H. and Amanda Washburn, was born in Winona Co., Minn., Feb. 16, 1859, and passed away at the home of her niece, Mrs. Robert Everts in Superior on Nov. 11, 1946, having attained the age of 87 years, 8 months and 25 days. She was the last one of five children, three sons and two daughters.
When she was nine years of age the family moved to Jackson County, onto a farm near Alma Center, remaining until 1880. In that year they moved to Spink Co., S.D.
Sept. 11, 1881, she was united in marriage to D.A. Bellows, and to them was born one son, Archie. They resided in South Dakota until Mr. Bellows’ death in 1893, and then she and her son moved to Minneapolis. After nine years, she became the wife of A.J. Crane. He died in 1924, and eleven months later her son Archie passed away.
Mrs. Carne came to Humbird (Clark County, Wis.) in 1934 to make a home for her two brother, Eugene Washburn, who had recently been bereft of his wife, and his son Claude.
Last July she was taken to the Neillsville Hospital with a hip fracture and the latter part of October was removed to the home of her niece, where her death occurred.
She is survived by a grandson, Dan Bellows, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Gjertson, both residents of California, and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in this village, of which she was a member, last Thursday afternoon, Rev. E.J. Sachtjen presenting from the text I Cor. 15:51-52, "Behold I show you a mystery. We shall be changed. In the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, the dead shall be raised incorruptible." Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Theiler sang "Face to Face" and Nearer My God to Thee," with Miss Simons, accompanist. Pallbearers were P.A. Hemmy, M. Kretschmer, A.W. Short, W.E. Waters, J.R. Trader, and W.F. Hein. Burial was in Mentor Cemetery. Relatives from away attending the services were Dr. and Mrs. R.B. Washburn of Augusta, and Mrs. Robert Everts of Superior.
