Marty Bertha #2 (13 FEB 1866 - 1 FEB 1947)
The following obituary of Mrs. Marty, who is kindly remembered by numerous old friends here, is taken from the Monroe Evening Times:
"Mrs. Gottlieb Mart, 80, died unexpectedly at her home at 3:30 Saturday afternoon, Feb. 1st, 1947, following a week’s illness.
Bertha Zeller, daughter of Fred and Sophia (Yanz) Zeller, was born in Schwartzenmatt, Clanton Bern, Switzerland, Feb. 13, 1866. She came to America in 1884 with her parents and two sisters, and settled on a cheese factory in Washington Township.
On May 7, 1891, she was married in New Glarus to Gottlieb Marty and for five years they lived on a cheese factory in New Glarus Township, before going to Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), where they resided seven years. Returning to Green County, they made their home here two years, and later moved to Madison where Mr. Marty was an instructor in the University School of Dairying.. They returned to Monroe in 1919.
Mrs. Marty was a member of St. John’s Church of Monroe, and its Aid Society. Surviving are the husband, a daughter, Mrs. Fred Ehrensperger, Madison, a granddaughter, Margaret, and a sister, Mrs. Blasius Rhyner, Marshfield. Her parents and fives sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in the Shriner-Neushwander Funeral Home with Rev. Paul O. Kehle, pastor of St. John’s Church, officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery."
