East Grant (7 January 1910)

A fearful snow storm called on us Tuesday night.

Services were held at the church on New Years Day.  A large crowd was in attendance.

R. W. Mellen and wife Sundayed at Loyal Jordan’s.

There is talk of a telephone line running thru here.  It will be a good improvement and appreciated by all.

Mr. Herman Berthold of Tioga came down last Thursday with his son for a visit among old time neighbors and friends.

Quite a number of young folks attended the New Years Dance at Lynn.

Word was received here to the effect that Mr. and Mrs. Norman Kidd who left here last month for California reached their destination safely and like the climate and country.  They said they could look right over ripe oranges and see snow on the mountains.  That’s more than we can say for Clark County.  Here we look over snow and see ripe oranges in Hart’s window.

Alice who was 5 years old was often asked to run errands for her mother. She went very willingly if she could pronounce the name of the article wanted, but she dreaded the laughter which greeted her attempts to pronounce certain words.  "Vinegar" was one of the hardest for her.  She never would go for it if she could help it, but one morning her mother found it absolutely necessary to send her.  On entering the store she handed the jug to the clerk and said: "Smell the jug and give me a quart."
