Funeral services were held for the Rev. Charles J. Swanson in the Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
His death, due to a cerebral hemorrhage, occurred at 7:25 Sunday, September 2, in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
The Rev. Raymond Fleming, LaCrosse, Central District Superintendent, had charge of the services and was assisted by the Rev. Kistler of Tomah. James R. Colby sang, "Beyond the Sunset" and "I Know Not What the Future Hath." Mrs. Byron Zepplin was organist. Near the close of the services a chorus of more than twenty pastors sang, "The Sweet Bye and Bye," with the congregation joining in on the final chorus.
The following ministers served as pallbearers: The Rev Lee Holmes and Winslow Wilson, LaCrosse; Richard Truitt, Onalaska; Herbert Groves, New Lisbon; Keith Davison, Mauston; and Virgil Holmes, Neillsville.
Other pastors attending the rites here were the Rev. A. R. Henry, Menomonie; J. W. Harris, Boyceville; Virgil Brown, Deer Park; Carl Fox, Glenwood City; Dwight C. Jarvis, Marshfield; Clarence H. Marshall, (retired) Viroqua; FloydFalhgren, Mondovi; Stanley Schmelling, Durand; Walter Thompson, Arkansaw; Ethel Nulton, Greenwood; Donald Frank, Fairchild; and Arthur Riley, Merrillan.
The funeral services here were attended by relatives from Chicago, Wheaton, Bellwood, Champaign, and Itasca, Illinois; Carney, Daggett and Detroit, Michigan; and Milwaukee and Marinette, with former parishioners coming from cities in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan.
The Rev. Ernest Kistler of Tomah conducted the funeral services at the Voth and Anderson funeral home in Milwaukee at 2:45 p.m. Thursday. The hymns,"Abide with Me" and "The Lord’s Prayer" were sung. Interment was in Arlington Park Cemetery.
