$15,000 FIRE LOSS IN WITHEE
Fire of undetermined origin, discovered shortly before 2:30 o’clock Friday morning, destroyed the two story frame building owned and occupied by the Withee Hardware and Implement company, together with most of the contents.
The loss has been estimated at approximately $15,000.
The Withee fire department assisted by members of the Owen department, succeeded in preventing the destruction of nearby buildings and extinguished incipient blazes on the roofs of the Hanson store and the Will Guerink residence.
The flames had gained too much headway, however, by the time the alarm was given, to save the building and rendered it dangerous to attempt entering the place for the purpose of removing the sock, of which only a small amount was carried out.
The loss is partly covered by insurance.
