Heathville (4 February 1910)
What is marriage? It is an institution for the blind.
Willie Davis says that Eugene Osgood lives on the Granton road.
It’s the small man that gets the biggest enlargement of the head.
Charley Schuster’s finger is turning rather crooked.
If Granton is going to be dry, some one perhaps will think of the idea and start manufacturing glass eyes for blind pigs.
George Ives consulted Dr. Ross in regard to his eyes.
Reinhold Guk of Gukville did some butchering at the Valley farm on Wed. He guarantees good work and right prices.
How often do you people go bathing in the O’Neill Creek says Norman Kidd in his letter to the News on January 14. This question has aroused the minds of the Heathville people and if Bill Smith and Howard Boaty belong to the latter they came from the place where the remainders of the smart alecks live. Never the less the above mentioned two gentlemen informed us of the fact that Norman Kidd never went bathing in his live (life) till he got to California and perhaps that is the cause that fish are dying by the thousands at Ocean Park and vicinity. The authorities are aroused over this great panic among the water humanity and guards are being placed and informed to shoot any person that comes near the bathing ground with stag overalls on.
Among the prospective buyers of Pete Paulson’s gasoline engine are Leatherdale Dubes, E. Neinas, John and Ernst Barth, Will Green, Oscar Franke, & Fred Anderson Three more orders were placed by Pete last week, they are Joe Bird, Snyder, and Lynhardt Fischer.
Fred Carpenter’s house was well filled with about 40 friends, neighbors and relatives on Tuesday night of last week, the occasion being their 36th wedding anniversary. A grand oyster supper was served by Mrs. Carpenter with eatables fit for a senator. May Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter live another 36 years among us. Dancing and card playing were indulged in and the good byes and come again were said in the wee small hours of the morning.
