Tony Svetlik, 96, of Neillsville died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

 

Anthony Charles Svetlik was born Dec. 22, 1914, in Cadott, the son of Frank and Mary (Sedlacek) Svetlik.  He attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Cadott and graduated from Cadott High school. Tony enlisted in the Army Air Corps July 22, 1941, and served in World War II as a staff sergeant and flight engineer on the B-29.  He was united in marriage to Ann Blumenthaler Nov. 10, 1945, at the Topeka Army Air Base.  He was honorably discharged Dec. 3, 1945.  Tony and Ann then moved to Neillsville, where he worked as a mechanic, body repairman and later in his career as a salesman for the Svetlik Ford Motor Co.  He retired in 1978.

 

Tony was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville.  He was a member of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville and the Neillsville area AARP Chapter #4316.

 

He is survived by his wife, Ann M. Svetlik; five children, Kathleen (George) Lewis of Roseburg, OR, Barbara (Thomas) Dornbach of Pacific Grove CA, Ronald Svetlik of Paicines, CA, Toni (Rick) Sturtz of Neillsville and Victoria (Daniel) Busby of Stillwater, MN; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyne Lohr of East Troy; and a brother, Thomas (Patricia) Svetlik of Gillette, WY.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Victor, Frank and Charles Svetlik; and four sisters Lilian Marx, Martha Yakish, Maryan Kehr and Sister Ruth Svetlik.

 

A Memorial Service for Tony will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Varkey V. Joseph.  Music will be provided by Ronald Resong, organist and St. Mary’s Choir.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Neillsville Veteran’s council. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
