Granton Locals (25 February 1910)

 

Ross Paulson accompanied by Fred Wonser, drove to Unity last Friday.

 

Judge James O’Neill spent Saturday afternoon here with town friends.

 

W. P. Budge has been on the sick list and under the doctor’s care for a week past.

 

Mrs. Mary J. Huff returned to the W. P. Budge farm Sunday.

 

Jack Dost spent several days of last week at the Henry Braatz home engaged with interior decorating.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lastofka of York drove in and spent Sunday at the J. P. Dost home.

 

Mrs. Judson Canfield is slowly recovering from a several weeks siege of la grippe.

 

Little Raymond Paulson youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ross Paulson is seriously ill with pneumonia since Sunday.

 

The Mesdames Henry Lawson and P. M. Ross spent last Friday with friends at Marshfield.

 

Several of Carl Krause’s children are sick with scarlet fever and the family has been under quarantine several weeks.

 

Mrs. Kurzrok returned home last week from a couple months visit among her children residing in the southern part of the state.

 

Mrs. W. S. Davis and daughter Gertrude returned home last week from a several weeks’ pleasure trip and visit between the Twin Cities.

 

Miss Flora Kurzrok the milliner left last week for Minneapolis in the interest of her millinery business. She will be home in ample time and prepared to fill your Easter millinery wants.

 

Helene Baer went to Neillsville Saturday and remained until Tuesday visiting her grandpa and grandma Stockwell.

 

Mrs. F. J. Baer took dinner at J. C. Canfield’s and called Grandma Starks, Mrs. Olney Johnson and Mrs. A. Montgomery last Monday and altogether had a very enjoyable day.

 

The Old Folks will give another one of their dances tonight, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Beeckler made a business trip to Neillsville Thursday.

 

The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Happe who has been seriously ill with pneumonia is now rapidly recovering.

 

Miss Elsie Riedel went to Milwaukee Thursday morning.  She has secured pleasant employment there and expects to be gone several months.

 

The newest styles and materials in Ladies spring suits are now on sale at W. J. Marsh Dry Goods Co.

 

Herman Roehl and family are domiciled in rooms in the D. E. Barker house since Monday.

 

Andy Anderson of Merrillan a brakeman on the local freight suffered the loss of a foot through a railroad accident at Marshfield Wednesday morning.

 

Mrs. A. J. Knorr will entertain the ladies of the Art Needlework Club this (Friday) afternoon.

 

When you need cardboard, blotting paper and photo envelopes call at Amidon Drug Store.

 

Roy Wright sent in his resignation as carrier on Route 4 last Wednesday.  Roy will leave for Saskatchewan, Canada, next Tuesday, where he has taken up a homestead near Will Huff’s horse ranch.

 

Robert Kurth sold his 80 acre farm on the Ridge including buildings, livestock and farm implements to parties from the southern part of the state, last Saturday.  Consideration $11,000!  This is one of the best improved farms on the Ridge and the buildings are as good as can be found anywhere.  Robert is undecided as to his future plans.

 

Among those from here who attended the funeral of Arnold Beer at Marshfield last week were Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lautenbach, daughter Theresa and sons Oscar and Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Schlinsog, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Beilke and son Harry, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Wischulke, Elsie and Willie Breseman, and Elsie Kurth.

 

Ladies winter suits, coats and furs are still going at half price at W. J. Marsh Dry Goods Co.

 

Leland Davis has rented and taken possession of the Harry Ober house since Saturday.

 

Mrs. Frank Converse spent a couple days of this week with relatives in Neillsville.

 

Scott Davis is somewhat under the weather this week suffering with the grippe.

 

At a special meeting of the Granton Beaver Colony held last Monday evening eight new members were initiated.  An oyster supper was served and a social good time was had after the meeting.

Master Irving Kurth underwent another surgical operation at the Eau Claire hospital late last week.

Traffic was somewhat delayed on this road between Merrillan and Marshfield last Monday on account of a wreck which occurred about a mile west of Chili last Monday noon, due to a broke journal on a box car of a through freight train.

 

The Mesdames Frank Lavey, Willis Williams, G. E. Amidon, N. E. Lee, Price Lee, Ben Dudei, Laura Brown, Byrl Kidd, Roscoe Mellen, the Misses Ethel Finnigan, Emma and Lena Riedel enjoyed Washington’s birthday at Neillsville.

 

Just before closing our forms we are informed of the death of Louis Albrecht, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Albrecht of the Town of Lynn.

 

According to a letter received by Postmaster Tompkins from Congressman John Esch under date of Feb. 22, Mr. and Mrs. Esch have not given up hope of saving their son Paul, although they have received no encouragement from experts in Chicago, Buffalo and New York.
