Johnson, Henry L. (25 MAR 1871 - 25 OCT 1948)

 

Henry Llewellyn Johnson was born March 25, 1871 near Hixton, Wis.  He came to Clark County in 1885, settling near Humbird.  He received his education at Hixton and Humbird.  Most of his life was spent in the county, excepting about sixteen year lived in North Dakota.

 

He was united in marriage to Caroline Presher on Sept. 12, 1890, at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Neillsville.  To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters.

 

He was a member of the masonic Lodge in Humbird for over forty-five years.  He was a quiet man of religious faith, trust in God and eternal life.  For the past seven years he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John Erickson of Granton.  For the past several months he experience attacks of decreasing strength.  The last week he was in the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.  There he departed to his eternal reward early Monday, Oct. 25, 1948, at the age of 77 years and 7 months.

 

Those preceding him in death are: his wife Caroline, son Charles, his parents, six brother and one sister.  He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Ira Dean of Long Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. John Erickson (Vesta), Granton, Mrs. Ivan Putman (Dorothy), and Mrs. Herbert Phillips (Ruth), both of Janesville; one brother, J.C. Johnson of Humbird; thirteen grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

 

Services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 28th, at the funeral home at Granton, after which the remains were brought to Humbird and services held at the Methodist Church, with Rev. S.A. Gutknecht of the Evangelical and United Brethren Church of Chili, officiating.  The pastor’s sermon was from the text, "A house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."  "Good Morning, Up There," Rock of Ages," and "Sweet Bye and Bye," were sung by Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Waters, with Mrs. Losey accompanist.  Impressive Masonic rites also took place at the church and beside the grave.  Interment was in Mentor Cemetery beside his wife and son.  Man floral emblems from relatives and friends wer banked about the casket.

Baumgartner, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. O’Leary, Alvin Durham, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. henry Chenoweth, Hixton; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McKivitt, Mrs. Jennie Livingston, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Durham, Black River Falls; Mrs. Fitzmaurice, mrs. Al Raymond, Fairchild; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fradenburg, Willard; Mrs. June Janke, Wm. Phillips and Leo, Merrillan; Ray Tyler, Lindsey.
