Scherer, George (1883 - 2 March 1957)

George Scherer Dies at Age 74

   George William Scherer, 74, retired farmer, died at 7:30 o’clock Saturday morning at the home of his son, George Scherer Jr., after being in poor health the past year.

   Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  The Rev. Edward Hartung, pastor, officiated.  Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

   Mr. Scherer was born in Germany in 1883 and was married to Annie Ducey at Hollandale in 1907.  The couple came to the Greenwood area in 1915 to operate a farm 4½ miles south of here.  Mrs. Scherer died in April, 1948.

   Survivors include three sons, Francis, Spencer; George Jr., Greenwood; Raymond, Loyal; two daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Denk, Loyal; Mrs. Bud (Celia) Bremer, Loyal; 19 grandchildren; one brother, Matt, Chicago; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Larson, Silvers, Ill.

   Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
