Heathville (18 March 1910)
Everybody knows that Fred Garbisch would rather have the night mare than to be entirely without a horse. This isn’t a horse story nor perhaps much of anything else. But there is no danger of his running short on crows the coming season if he selected the right kind. While taking a stroll through his forest last week he spied a couple of crows engaged in a severe fight. He quickly drew back into the thickest brush to prepare himself with a club with the intentions to destroy the enemies of the cornfield. After being thus prepared Fred began to take after his victims. But as they did not pay any more attention to the club than the bull did to the fly on his horn, Fred dropped his preparations and with his loud voice ordered them at once to surrender in a very diminishing exiting manner. Fred picked them up as the Chinese do the rise and held them closely to his face and talking German to them. Through this operation one of them believing to be in a cornfield which needed cultivation, spying a kernel of corn with a gentle tap on Fred’s chin helped himself. He didn’t mind the kernel, but he says it left a hole big enough to plant corn cobs. The crows are on exhibition at his farm. He has already sent for a crow incubator that will hatch out something better and go higher than Moldenhauer’s airship.
While in Marshfield last week we stopped a severe runaway. The team became frightened from a moving train, and ran down Main Street. After gaining possession of the lines we returned them to their owner. A large crowd had gathered by that time saying to take one, but the fellow with the bay window in his excitement forgot to say thank you. Very small, and if he ever advertises his business it is in the one cent a word column.
A young girl in Heathville had an idea to oil the springs on a lounge. While thus engaged she fell on her back porch and received serious injuries.

Now they say that tuberculosis is spread by kissing each other. Let’s cut it out. All of you fellows that are willing to do that, part your hair in the middle.
