Miller, Donald D. (11 November 1930 - 24 July 2011)

Donald Miller, 80, of Thorp died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at his residence.

Donald D. Miller was born at home in the township of Hewitt Nov. 11, 1930, the son of Albert "Pete" and Mildred (King) Miller.  In November 1944, at the age of 14, Donald was shot in the head during deer-hunting season.  He was left paralyzed and in a wheelchair. Growing up, Donald lived at home on the family farm with his parents until 1981.  He then moved into the Memorial Nursing Home for a few years.  Later, Don transferred to the Clark County Health Care Facility.  Around 1995, Don had the opportunity to be one of the first people to move into the Assisted Living Home in Thorp.  Donald resided there until his death. Donald worked for a number of years at the Adult Development Services in Greenwood.  He was also busy making woodwork projects at the Clark County Health Care facility.

The hobbies Don enjoyed were playing cards, shopping, eating out, and watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers.  (Don eventually changed teams and followed Brett Favre to cheer on the Minnesota Vikings.)

He is survived by two brothers, Albert (Nancy) Miller of Cincinnati, OH, and Duane "Joe" (Dorothy) Miller of Marshfield; a sister, Deloris Genteman of Marshfield; brothers-in-law, Jess Hagen and Bish Kolano, both of Neillsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bruce Miller; four sisters, Pat Hagen, Sandy Kolano, Barbara Oldham and Judy Grap; and brothers-in-law, John Genteman, Walter "Bunny" Oldham and Lewis Grap.

Funeral services for Donald will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Gesche Funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.

Online condolences may be made at www.geschefh.com.
