PORTZ MUST STAND TRIAL

Herman Portz, chairman of Fremont township, Clark county, must stand trial at the fall term of Clark county circuit court because he performed more than $100 worth of services for his town in 1931.

Portz, who is a prominent member of the Clark county board of supervisors admits performing the extra work, but defends his action by stating that he had been authorized to do so at the town meeting.

Sec. 348.28 of the Wisconsin statures prohibits a town officer from receiving more that $100 per annum for services rendered his town.

Herman Dankemeyer of Chili filed the complaint against Portz, and at his preliminary hearing Portz defended himself for his actions.

This hearing was heard before R. F. Keuntz, court commissioner, at Neillsville and Ports was bound over to the circuit court. He was released on $50 bond which he personally furnished.
