Chili (12 August 1910)

Once in a while we are getting some rain to break the monotony of the dry spell.

Last week Monday evening, during an electric storm Wm. Behling’s house 3½ miles southeast of here, was struck by lightning about 9 o’clock in the evening.  It did give the family quite a shock; especially Mrs. Behling, but did not set the house afire, although it demolished the northeast part of the building and tore things to pieces in great shape.

Miss Libby Bartels of Neillsville is visiting at Degener’s house with Vivian.

Dr. Engsburg and family are making their annual visit at H. Koser’s enjoying country life and country air.

Mrs. Degener and Mrs. Bosselman made a business trip to Neillsville between trains Wednesday.

The R. R. Co. put in the new scale in the stock yard in very good style, so the stock can be weighed in a heavy rain storm and be in the dry.  The station building is being raised and a new platform will be put in made of concrete curbing and cinders.

Those men from Heathville after working for the Railroad Company for several days concluded that they had plenty of work at home and sent substitutes in their places.

If you want a new buggy or spring wagon this summer you can get them now at reduced prices at Degener’s.  He wants to make room for the winter goods. Come and see.

Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Reichert have enjoyed a visit of Mrs. Reichert’s sister, brother-in-law and baby.
