Chili (9 September 1910)

The Primary has passed into history.  It was a hard political fight in this town as it probably has been in a good many towns.  Of course for each office here could be nominated only one from each party.  Some had to be left out necessarily. The people have spoken and the will of the majority will have to be carried out. We hope that nothing will happen again like it did in the Stephenson campaign 2 years ago which is too fresh in our memory, for anybody to wish to have it repeated this year.

Town of Fremont gave La Follette, McGovern, Daniels, Draper, Kintzele, Ure, Rush and others in the same line strong majorities.

Our District School No. 7 commenced Monday with Miss Vera Beeckler as teacher; 33 scholars were enrolled the first day.

Mr. Rush of Loyal spoke on political issues Monday night to a small but enthusiastic crowd. Through some mistake or neglect of somebody the bills were not got out which advertised his coming.  Mr. Fricke was here with Mr. Rush.

August Dankemyer went to Neillsville on business Tuesday afternoon.

Andrew Kohl shipped a carload of sheep Tuesday morning.  He likes the stock yard here very much.

The Neillsville Fair was very much appreciated this year by the people in this neighborhood. They went by automobiles, wagons, buggies and trainloads.  Moldenhauer’s tri-plane of course was one of the main attractions.  The races were genuine.  The exhibition of corn was certainly good.  It showed plainly that corn can be raised in this country if the season is anywhere near favorable. As to pumpkins and squash there certainly were some boosters to be seen.  Take it all in all, the Fair was good this year.

E. W. Oens is having his house sided, put on a wall and painted to keep up with the rest of the people.
