Petkovsek, William Edward (19 November 1915 - 27 August 2011)
William E. "Bill" Petkovsek, 95, of Willard died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in Marshfield, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
William Edward Petkovsek was born Nov. 19, 1915, on the family farm near Willard, the son of John and Mary (Germoshek) Petkovsek. He was raised on the farm and received his education at North Willard School. As a young man, Bill worked in the harvest fields in the Dakotas, as a logger and drove trucks for Plautz Brothers.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Prebil Oct. 23, 1948, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. They purchased his family’s home farm, which they operated until January of 1978. He continued to raise beef cattle until just a few years ago.
Bill was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, KSKJ Lodge #136, Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club, Dairyland Fox & Coon Hunters Club, and had served on the boards of North Hendren Cheese Factory and the Town of Hendren.
He had many interests, but especially loved being with family and friends, hunting, fishing, farming and the Packers. Bill was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and neighbors in need and never asked or expected anything in return. He will be dearly missed as a husband, father, friend, farmer, fisherman and hunter.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Willard; seven children, Ray (Sue) of Madison, Donna (Charlie) Washburn of Beach Park, IL, Joanne (Bob) Trunkel of Greenwood, Dave (Brenda) of Kennan, Jean Petkovsek of Greenwood, Dale of Willard and Mary Petkovsek (Tom Briski) of Willard; seven grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Gregorich of Willard; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, John, Joseph, Tony, Frank and Martin; and three sisters, Mary Beton, Anna Lasses and Frances Bruske.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard with Rev. Joseph Follmar officiating. Visitation will be held at the church, Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
