Heaslett, William (17 Mar 1836 - 16 Jul 1914)

William Heaslett died last Thursday morning at his home on Fifth Street after an illness of several weeks.  Deceased was born in Antrin County, Ireland, March 17, 1836, and went to Canada when a young boy.  In 1868 he was united in marriage to Maggie Johnson and two children were born to them.  They came to Clark County in the fall of 1868 and Mr. Heaslett took up work for Hewett & Wood.  He helped build the village of Hewettville and also assisted in building many of the earlier buildings in Neillsville.  He worked in the woods for several years and then worked for Sam Green in his gun shop, later buying out this business and continuing in it until his death.  Mrs. Heaslett died a few years after coming to Clark County and she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. O.E. Counsell.  Mr. Heaslett married Mrs. Hutchinson and she too passed away a few years later.  He was again married to Miss Mevina Fuller and to this union five children were born, all of whom survive their father.  The surviving children, with their mother, are Thomas, Charles, Blanche, Lynn and Lysle.

Mr. Heaslett was well known to all the earlier settlers of the county and in his earlier years was a prominent figure in Neillsville affairs.  He was a capable man and was generally liked by all who knew him.  The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, services being held at the Presbyterian church and interment being made in the Neillsville Cemetery.
