Eunson, Mrs. Robert (1830 - 21 DEC 1905)
One of the most lamentable deaths which has taken place in our city for some time past, occurred last Thursday evening at 6:30 when, after a 3 weeks illness, Mrs. Robert Eunson closed her eyes in that sleep from which there is no awakening, dying of the dread typhoid fever that which resulted in the taking off of her aged father some few weeks earlier. She leaves in her immediate family, a husband, two daughters, Eric and Genevieve, aged 18 and 12 years respectively, and Dale, an infant son but 15 months old. Mr. and Mrs. Eunson would have been married 25 years next week Saturday. Theirs was a most happy union, there wedded life having been one of love, joy and peace. The blow falls very heavily upon the bereaved family who has the sympathy of the entire community in their deep bereavement. The funeral was held here at the Presbyterian church Sunday at 10 a.m. and the remains taken to Merrillan for interment beside the aged parents and two infant children of the deceased.

In the early 1900's Sheriff Robert Eunson occupied the residence with his second wife, Jessie, and his two children, Dale and Genevieve. When Robert Eunson's term as sheriff expired, he packed up his family and moved to Montana to claim a homestead. His son, Dale, went on to become a well-known writer and dramatist. His non-fiction story entitled, "The Day They Gave Babies Away" was written in 1946 and has become a modern classic. It is the only story ever to have been published three times in one magazine, Cosmopolitan, and it has been dramatized on radio and television.
