Owen, Alice (12 DEC 1928-09 AUG 2011)

Alice A. "Honey" Owen, 82, Eau Claire, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday evening, Aug. 9, 2011, at Care Partners in Eau Claire. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 15, at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church, Eau Claire. Rev. Brian Konopa Officiated. Interment was in the Rest Haven Cemetery in the town of Washington. Alice Beaver was born on Dec. 12, 1928, in Loyal, to Frank and Kathryn (nee Flaherty) Beaver. She attended Loyal schools and graduated from Loyal High School in 1946. She married James Owen in 1949 in Eau Claire. She worked at Presto Industries and the A&P store a few years before becoming a mother. After raising her children, she returned to Work at Burroughs/Memorex until she retired. Honey was truly a joy to be around, very personable and friendly to others. Even though sometimes she did have a stubborn streak, she always had a smile on her face and always shared her smile with others. She often talked about the old days when things were hard and money was scarce. Growing up they made do with what they had. This continued later in life as raising six children was always a challenge. Anybody who met her enjoyed her company and her stories. In her earlier years she enjoyed camping and sitting bt a fire. She would even have a fire in her back yard to sit at until late in the night. One of her favorite pastimes was working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Most of all she enjoyed being with family and friends. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave her a lot of happiness and joy. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all.

Survivors include six sons, Tony (Debi) Owen, Eau Claire, Mike (Julie) Owen, Eau Claire, Pete (Debbie) Owen, Eau Claire, Jamie (Jessica) Owen Eau Claire, Bob (Ellen) Owen, Eau Claire and Bill (Lisa) Owen, Onalaska; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Marcy (Bob) Schoettle, Eau Claire, and Donna Zagar, West Bend, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James; her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Fricke and Lorraine Degenhardt; three brothers, Gilbert Beaver, Arthur Beaver and Joseph Beaver; three brothers-in-law, Alfred Degenhardt, Oscar Fricke and John Zagar; and two sisters-in-law, Elinor Beaver and Elaine Beaver.
