William Edward Petkovsek was born on Nov. 19, 1915, on the family farm near Willard, the son of John and Mary (nee Germoshek) Petkovsek. He was raised on the farm and received his education at North Willard School. As a young man, he worked in the harvest fields in the Dakotas, as a logger and drove trucks for Plautz Brothers. He married Dorothy Prebil on Oct. 23, 1948, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. They purchased his family’s home farm, which they operated until January 1978. He continued to raise beef cattle until just a few years ago. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, KSKJ Lodge #136, Rock Dam Rod & Gun Club, Dairyland Fox & Coon Hunters Club, and had served on the boards of North Hendren Cheese Factory and the town of Hedren. He had many interests, but especially loved being with family and friends, hunting, fishing, farming, and the Packers. He was always ready to lend a hand to family and neighbors in need and never asked or expected anything in return.
