Oscar Fricke of this place and J.H. Bitter of Sheboygan made a business trip to Granton Thursday. That evening Rice Davis started out with a rig to bring Mr. Fricke and Mr. Bitter home. They had not proceeded far when the horses got into a snow bank and were unable to go further. The two gentlemen, being very desirous of getting home, they started to come the rest of the way on foot. There was no path to be seen in any direction and the snow lay about three feet deep. They endeavored to make for the railroad track. After travelling a short distance Mr. Bitter spied a small trail which they decided to follow. After following this for about a mile they found themselves on the edge of a wood and were further from the railroad track than when they started. There was mothering to do but to retrace their steps through the deep snow. Setting out again they finally succeeded in finding the track and arrived home at 2 o’clock in the morning, exhausted; but with an experience to recount in days to come. This was Mr. Bitter’s first trip to Clark County and his experience that night through the Clark County snow drifts he will always remember.
