Mrs. Florence Castner, 79, died at the
Havenet Nursing Home in Owen, Friday, Nov. 9, after a month’s
illness.
Mrs. Castner, nee Florence Miles, was
born in Loyal, July 27, 1877, and was the oldest living native
resident of this city.
She received her education in the public
schools of Loyal, and taught in the rural schools in the area.
Upon her marriage to Everett Whitney, she
lived in Superior for several years. She returned to Loyal Later
and was employed for many years as night telephone operator in the
local telephone office. She was married to Dan Castner in 1937. His
death occurred in 1950.
Mrs. Castner was a member of the Loyal
Methodist Church and held a life membership in an O.E.S. chapter in
Superior, having retained her membership there for over 50 years.
She served as treasurer of the Loyal Cemetery Association for many
years.
Funeral rites were held at 2 p.m. Monday
at the Myre Funeral Home. The Rev. Ethel Nulton, pastor of the
Greenwood Methodist Church, was officiant for the funeral rites.
Burial was in the Loyal Cemetery.
The hymns, "The Old Rugged Cross" and
"Beyond the Sunset" were sung by Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. G. W.
Nelson. Mrs. Byron Zepplin was organist.
Pallbearers were Art Schuette, H. E.
Catlin, Ray Prior, Lacey Philpott, Herbert White, and G.
Kehrberg.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lois
Jenks, Winona, Minn., six stepchildren, A. Whitney, Dallas, Texas,
Mrs. Clara Whitney Grossman, Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Alice Berg,
Mrs. Inez Behrens, and Claude Castner, Marshfield, and Mrs. Elva
Fischer, Medford.
Coming from away to attend the funeral were Mrs. Lois Jenks, Mrs. Roy Miles, and Miss Mildred Jenks, Winona, Minn; A. O. Whitney, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Clara Grossman, Kansas City, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Chet Berg, Mr. and Mrs. R. Behrens, Mr. and Mrs. G. Jacobson and daughter and John Castner, Marshfield; Mrs. Bernard Fischer, Medford; Mrs. Hugo Roesler, Thorp; and Mr. and Mrs. John Cosmosky and daughter, Eau Claire.
