East Lynn (9 December 1910)

We are perhaps getting a little out of our territory, but as the editor has promised us a package of Peerless for a few extra items and as we are in sore need of the spit producer we will try and uphold our end of the bargain.  It happened that a farmer leaving near Cedarhurst thought he would give his self a treat by going to Minnesota and visit some friends, and did not take the preparation to supply himself with a cow bell.  As he has great faith in his long power with which he is well supplied, everything went O. K. until he reached St. Paul.  Then his troubles began. The first colored gentleman he met put memories of by-gone days into his head when he used to sit in his cozy home and read of Stanley’s thrilling adventures and hair breath escapes on the Dark Continent.  So a sudden spasm of home sickness came over him and he started to sing the song of ‘Home Sweet Home’ in a tune that was a good imitation of a fog horn, when a friend was attracted by the melodious noise and came to his rescue and helped him get started on his journey.

Mrs. Fred Zuehlke returned from Milwaukee last Friday where she spent a few weeks visiting relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Guk spent Sunday at Chas. Kempin’s.

Mr. Portz of Fremont is busy sawing and cutting feed in this vicinity.

Herman Jensen sold a horse to Ernest Neinas of Sauerkraut City last week for one hundred dollars.

Doctor Ross made a professional call at Henry Dietrich’s last Sunday.

Oscar Frank sawed wood for James Quicker Tuesday.

Adolph Puscheck is busy breaking his new horse which he purchased of Gordon Davis last week.
