Happy New Year to all!

August Prust says that lightning struck in Chili and ruined the knowledge of three men.  Each one was of standard in the vernacular path.

The Abel Harding boy who was accidently shot by his brother is improving very nicely in the Marshfield hospital, as only skillful care could save this boy.  Mr. Harding is speaking with the highest esteem of the above institution.

Charles Elchlipp has been passing something of about 32 calibers to all of his friends for a Christmas present.

Don’t be deceived if Fred Brown and John Eibergen tell you they are cutting wood for Charley Lindow.  They are out killing time and eating worm wood, thereby giving the neighbors an enthusiastic rendition of more edibles.

Ike Rogers and John Hutt are professionals in the following diminutive fashions: Mason’s medicine peddlers, hobble skirt protectors, night hawk directors, grand mother’s preserve eaters and time killers. As time and space do not allow continuing any further we’ll say they have chosen the last mentioned profession and went out taking cord-wood jobs.  Both these young men are known to the writer for about 20 years and belong to the upper crust of Chili. Both are as black as a steak of hard luck, but honest - we will leave it to all the ladies in the Town of _____, Hutt especially, he used to sell medicine and he don’t know a bottle of castor oil from a powder horn.  But oh yes, honest. Recently they were arrested on the grounds trying to contradict certain authenticated statement of facts of capturing a neighbor’s Tom cat.  (To be continued next week.)
