Chase, Hugh Henry (Poem - 9 Feb 1906)
Born at Little Valley, Catherangas, Co. N.Y., June 7, 1826, died Jan. 19, 1906, aged 79 years and 7 months
"God is Life"
In the solemn, silent watches of the night,
Along with God when his spirit took it flight.
What passed between them, none may dare to say,
Ere he went from gloom and night into eternal day.
Yes, God is life, and life shall never never die,
Though his worn out body in the grave must lie,
God’s love shines through death’s portal to guide the soul
From which the clouds of doubt and fear forever roll.
"I am the resurrection and the life" this our savior said,
And no matter what our state or name we must share his lovely bed,
But we like him may rise again to that better life unknown
Through hope and faith to live with him beside the great white throne.
