Lynn Mutual Fire insurance Co Meeting (3 January 1911)

Despite the intense cold weather about 200 members of the Lynn Mutual Insurance Co. attended the annual meeting which was held at the opera house here last Tuesday.  The usual interest was taken in the election of three directors which resulted in the re-election of J. W. Short of the Town of Levis, Wm. Vollrath of the Town of Mead, and the election of Arlo Huckstead of this Town in place of E.A. Webster of Fremont.

The lightning rod question was brought up again this year, and the motion to reduce the rat of insurance on all property properly protected by lightning rods was lost.  In connection with this a schedule prepared by Secretary Ure showing the amount paid for loses caused by fire and by lightning for the past five years, may be of interest to all policy holders.  In it is shown that he amount paid during this period was $41,000.00 of which $25,000.00 are attributed to fire and $16,000.00 to lightning.  During the past two years a number of buildings which were properly rodded were struck by lightning without being damaged in the least.  Buildings covered with a metal roof and having proper ground connection are considered as fully protected against lightning, but those without ground connection are in more danger of being struck and burned than are others without any protection whatever.

At the director’s meeting the old officers were re-elected, namely: J. W. Short, president; John P. Kintzele, treas., and Geo. A. Ure, secretary.  Mr. Ure having removed to Neillsville owing to his being elected as Clerk of the Court, the board of directors passed a resolution to the effect that the business must be done through Granton the same as before, including the purchasing of stationery, stamps, and the usual amount of printing.  The Company still continues to prosper, there being now in force 8,998 policies, amounting to $8,474,853.55.  The best of harmony seems to prevail among the stockholders and officers.  The next meeting will be held here again.
