Cattanach, Nina H. (7 SEP 1892 - 1 SEP 1978)
The community of Owen was saddened at the passing of one of its prominent pioneer citizens and residents, Mrs. Lewis (Nina H.) Cattanach, who died on Friday, Sept. 1st, 1978, at 6:55 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital in where she had been a patient since August 17th.
Having lived in the city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) for over 60 years, she was well known and respected by all who knew her, and will be remembered for her civic and church and her willingness to serve.
Funeral services in her memory were held on Monday morning, Sept. 4th, 1978 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Owen, With the Rev. E.N. Stillings officiating. Eastern Star services were held on Sunday evening, Sept. 3rd, at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen.
Burial services at the graveside were conducted at Riverside Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were six of her grandsons, Patrick Cattanach, Tom Cattanach, Jeff Cattanach, Curtis Cattanach, Douglas Cattanach and John Glenzer.
Mrs. Nina H. Cattanach, who at her death was 85 years, 11 months and 25 days ol, lived at 218 Fourth St., Owen, having been a resident of this City for 61 years. She was a native of Clark County, having been born in Neillsville on Sept. 7th, 1892, the daughters of Leland and Kate Cornwell, and attended school in Neillsville, graduating from high school in 1910.
Miss Nina H. Cornwell was united in marriage with Lewis Walter Cattanach on Dec. 30th, 1913, in Neillsville, and they lived in that city until 1917 when they moved to Owen where Mrs. Cattanach was very active all her life in community and church affairs.
Mrs. Cattanach was a member of St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church in Owen, member of the Ladies Guild, for many years a member of the Vestry of the church, president of the Diocese ECW from 1942 - 1945, and for more than 20 years she served as a trustee on the board for the Buffington Home in Menomonie.
She was a charter member of the Owen Chapter of the Order of the eastern Star #274, and served as Worthy Matron and was the chapter’s secretary for many years. She was also a member of the White Shrine in Wausau, a very active member of the Clark County Historical Society, and a Red Cross volunteer.
Her husband, L.W. Cattanach, a prominent citizen of this City, passed away in December of 1961. During their year together, Mrs. Cattanach was supportive of his work, and was employed for a time in his insurance business.
She is survived by four sons, Bert of Owen, Lewis of Boscobel, James of Marshfield and Robert of Neillsville; one daughter, Mrs. Hubert (Jean) Glenzer of Anchorage, Alaska; one brother, Harold Cornwell of Hemet, Calif.; 22 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband; two sons, Erving and John; two brothers, Rollie and Carrol, and one sister, Blanche.
